The Kennedy Center Honors
The 48th Kennedy Center Honors celebrated five artists and cultural figures for their lifetime contributions to American culture: country music icon George Strait, legendary rock band KISS, Tony Award–winning performer Michael Crawford, Grammy-winning disco pioneer Gloria Gaynor, and actor, writer, and director Sylvester Stallone. The annual gala honored their influence across music, theater, film, television, and popular culture through performances and tributes from leading artists.
The celebration took place on the Kennedy Center Opera House stage, with the honorees seated in the Opera House’s Box Tier as their peers paid tribute to their careers. The evening concluded with a post-performance party in the Grand Foyer.

Formed in New York in 1973 by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley, KISS became internationally recognized rock icons and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The band is associated with songs including “Rock and Roll All Nite,” “Beth,” and “Detroit Rock City.”
Michael Crawford: Crawford was honored for a career spanning theater, television, film, and music. He is best known for originating the role of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s *The Phantom of the Opera*, a performance he gave in London’s West End, on Broadway, and in Los Angeles.
