Tame Joy
Tame Joy is Lumen the Sim’s first complete gallery exhibition devoted to the artist’s hand-sculpted and painted “Tame Joy” figures. The characters belong to Lum3nation, a broader mythology that uses a clown-inflected, internet-native visual language to explore how reality is interpreted, simulated, and packaged for consumption.
The exhibition treats 1969—the year associated with both ARPANET and the moon landing—as a cosmological point of origin. Its phrase “Clownloading The Truth” summarizes the show’s central idea. Lumen’s wider practice combines traditional art-historical references with contemporary folk media such as social-media reels, fan pages, GIFs, and memes, moving across handmade fabrication, digital animation, sculptural installation, and moving image.
