Gary Ferguson with Moe Nelson

Gary Ferguson and Moe Nelson present an evening of roots-oriented music at Hank Dietle’s Tavern, drawing from bluegrass, country, Americana, roots rock, blues, and swing. Ferguson is an acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, while Nelson is a veteran DMV bassist whose playing has been heard with The Grandsons, The Hula Monsters, and The Longtimers.

Ferguson won the 2015 DCBU Hazel Dickens Songwriting Contest and was a finalist in MerleFest’s Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. He has toured throughout the United States and Europe and has worked with Knoxville Grass, Donna Fargo, Claire Lynch, and John Starling. His song “Southern Train” was featured at IBMA’s World of Bluegrass. He also performs with East of Monroe, The Hula Monsters, and Ferguson & Ferguson; the latter’s EP *Some Bridges* includes Ron Stewart and Mark Schatz. Ferguson plays guitar, mandolin, and bass.

Nelson brings decades of experience to the performance, with a style centered on a strong groove, tasteful musicianship, and support for the song. His work ranges from roots-rock and blues to swing-influenced rhythms and dance-oriented music.
