Dance Across Mexico: A Beginner's Workshop to Learn the Different Mexican Dance Styles

Dance Across Mexico is a 10-session beginner workshop presented by the Mexican Cultural Institute and DC Folklórico Dance Company. Participants will discover traditional dances from different regions of Mexico while exploring the movement, music, traditions, and cultural expressions connected to each style. The repertoire may be adapted according to the group’s progress, making the workshop suitable for both newcomers to Mexican folk dance and anyone interested in learning more about Mexican culture through movement.

No prior dance experience is required, and classes are taught in English. The workshop is led by Yanet Juárez and Alfonso, co-directors of DC Folklórico Dance Company.

When: October 8 through December 10, 2026

Showtimes: Thursdays from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, for 10 weekly sessions

Final Presentation: A concluding presentation for participants is planned for the week of December 14, 2026. The specific date and details will be announced during the workshop.

Tickets: $200 per participant, covering all 10 sessions

Registration: Advance registration is required because space is limited.

Capacity: 24 participants

Ages: Participants must be at least 15 years old.

What to Wear: Comfortable clothing that allows unrestricted movement is recommended. Folk dance shoes or shoes with a small heel are preferred, though participants may wear the closest alternative available. A long skirt may also be useful for sessions in which it is appropriate.

Suggested Gear Sources: Folkicks and Mariachi Connection sell folklórico shoes, practice skirts, and related dance accessories, and both retailers ship within the United States.
