ARGUS QUARTET
The Argus Quartet brings its boldly reimagined approach to chamber music to the Mansion at Strathmore on Thursday, February 18, 2027. Praised by The New Yorker as a “vivacious foursome,” the ensemble is known for thoughtful, personal programs that appeal both to experienced classical listeners and to audiences new to the genre. Since its founding in Los Angeles in 2013, the quartet has built a reputation for collaboration, community engagement, and adventurous programming in venues of many kinds, from intimate spaces to major concert halls.
The quartet’s recent projects include a program centered on works by Indigenous composers, featuring a new piece by Pulitzer Prize finalist Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti, commissioned through the National Performance Network Creation & Development Fund. That program has already been presented in San Diego, Long Beach, Denver, and Tucson. The ensemble has also earned top honors at the M-Prize Chamber Arts Competition and the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, appeared at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, and received commissions from composers including Katherine Balch, Donald Crockett, Eric Guinivan, Thomas Kotcheff, Jessica Meyer, and Juri Seo. Its recordings include Seo’s string quartet works on Innova Recordings and Christopher Cerrone’s “The Air Suspended” with pianist Shai Wosner on New Focus Recordings.
