Seong-Jin Cho, the celebrated South Korean pianist and winner of the 2015 International Chopin Competition, returns to Washington Performing Arts for a recital at the Music Center at Strathmore. Known for his expressive and distinctive pianistic voice, Cho has performed with major orchestras worldwide. The program opens with Jörg Widmann’s Sonatina facile, a contemporary homage to Mozart’s Sonata in C Major, K. 545, followed by two Prokofiev works: the colorful 10 Pieces from “Romeo and Juliet” and the dramatic Piano Sonata No. 8, one of the composer’s epic “war sonatas.” The recital concludes with Mozart’s Fantasia in C Minor.
