Mahler’s Titan with Heyward

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra music director Jonathon Heyward leads his ensemble in an evening built around Gustav Mahler’s monumental First Symphony, known as the “Titan.” The program opens with Andrea Tarrodi’s “Solus,” then features violinist Gil Shaham in the world premiere of Jonathan Leshnoff’s Violin Concerto, a new work commissioned by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Mahler’s symphony, which the composer once said should embrace everything like the world, anchors the concert with a journey from quiet, earthbound beginnings to a glowing, life-affirming finale. The performance takes place at Strathmore’s Music Center on Saturday evening, with tickets sold through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra rather than Strathmore.
