Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 21, 2026

DC Arts Events is a personalized arts events discovery app for the Washington, DC area. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We have written it to be direct and plain — not to obscure anything.

01

Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the service. Specifically:

  • Account information: Your name and email address, used to create and identify your account.
  • Preference signals: Your reactions to events (approvals, rejections, pins, hides), venue and neighborhood selections, and any written preference notes you provide in Settings.
  • Taste profile data: Explicit ratings you set for event genres, styles, periods, and formats.
  • Device token: A push notification token provided by Apple, used solely to deliver notifications about your event queue. This token is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.
  • Usage data: Standard technical logs (app version, device OS version, crash reports) used solely for diagnosing issues.

We do not collect your location beyond the neighborhoods you explicitly select. We do not access your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.

02

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used exclusively to provide and improve the service for you:

  • To personalize your events feed based on your stated and inferred preferences.
  • To generate and maintain your taste profile, which shapes which events are surfaced to you.
  • To populate your personal calendar subscription with events from your Approved tab.
  • To send you transactional emails (account creation, subscription billing, password reset). We do not send marketing email.
  • To diagnose crashes and fix bugs.
03

AI and Personalization

DC Arts Events uses AI to generate your taste profile and match events against your preferences. Here is exactly how that works with respect to your privacy:

  • Your personal information (name, email address) is never sent to any AI system. Identity and personalization are kept entirely separate.
  • Your activity and preferences are never used to train any AI model — ours or anyone else's.
  • Any written preference notes you enter are used only to refine your results. You can delete them at any time in Settings under Refine Your Preferences.
04

Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Ever. Our only source of revenue is the subscription fee you pay for the app.

We may share data in the following narrow circumstances only:

  • Service providers: We use a small number of infrastructure providers (hosting, billing, crash reporting) who process data solely on our behalf and are contractually prohibited from using it for any other purpose.
  • Legal requirements: We will disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process, and will notify you if permitted to do so.
  • Business transfer: If DC Arts Events is acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the new owner, who would be bound by this policy or required to obtain your consent before material changes.
05

Your Rights and Choices

You are in control of your data:

  • Access and portability: You can view your preference settings and taste profile at any time in the app.
  • Correction: You can update your name, email, neighborhoods, venue selections, and written preferences at any time in Settings.
  • Deletion: You can delete your preference notes in Settings → Refine Your Preferences. To delete your account and all associated data, use the Feedback section in Settings or contact us at the address below.
  • Preference reset: You can clear your taste profile and start fresh at any time from Settings → Your Taste Profile.
  • California and Virginia residents have additional rights under CCPA and VCDPA respectively, including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to deletion, and the right to opt out of sale (we do not sell data, but you can exercise this right by contacting us).
06

Data Retention and Security

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. Crash logs and technical diagnostics are retained for 90 days and then deleted.

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we take reasonable precautions but cannot guarantee absolute security.

07

Children's Privacy

DC Arts Events is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

08

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you by email and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after such notice constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
