Doubt: A Parable

Wed, Jun 2, 2027 – Sun, Jul 11, 2027
Alumni Drive, College Park, MD
Price not available

Set in 1964 at a Bronx Catholic school, *Doubt: A Parable* follows Sister Aloysius, a strict and suspicious nun, as she grows convinced that the charismatic and progressive Father Flynn has formed an inappropriate relationship with the school’s first Black student. Her unease turns into a determined campaign to expose him, pulling in the young, idealistic Sister James and the boy’s mother along the way. The resulting confrontations force the audience to sit with their own uncertainties, as John Patrick Shanley’s script explores faith, doubt, good and evil, authority, and powerlessness during a time of social upheaval. The play won both the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best New Play.

This production at Olney Theatre Center is directed by Hallie Gordon and is part of the theater’s 2026-27 season. Because it is staged in the intimate Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab, seating is limited and late seating is at the discretion of the House Manager. Anyone leaving during the performance will not be readmitted while the show is in progress.
